Toadies at the Troc

This past Saturday, June 28, was my very long waited for show of the Toadies.  I woke up thinking to myself, holy crap – tonight I’m seeing the Toadies.  I love going into Philadelphia to see a show: I get to shop, eat a good dinner and then (hopefully) see a great show at night.  It never gets old.  So me and my mother make it into Philla (as the PA signs say which crack me up for some reason), shop around Urban Outfitters, eat dinner at the Italian Bistro (fantastic eggplant parm by the way) and then head over to China Town to the Trocadero.  We rolled up a little before 7:30PM with doors being at 8PM and there was already a good line forming.  We stand in line for a few moments, almost got pooed on by wee little bird, got in and went straight up to the front right (yet on the stairs for those of you who are familiar with the Troc).  We parked our butts there the entire night and I must say it was a fantastic idea.  My friends met up with me later on and that just made the night even more fabulous.  Beer wasn’t so bad; a plastic cup of Blue Moon was $5.50… reasonable enough.

So let me explain the opening bands.  I refuse to bad mouth a band that simply isn’t my cup a tea – but if you are a complete ***hole to the crowd and I don’t like your band I’m totally never giving you a second shot.  (I’m stubborn).  But lucky for both of the opening bands they were complete sweethearts to the crowd.  The first opening band was Nowhere.  If you like southern Jersey rock with a touch of drunken lyrics this band is for you.  They were catchy and fun to an extent if you knew the words to sing a long to but not my personal fav.  The second band to open was Lions; pretty sure they were from Texas along with the Toadies.  They were fun as well with the members having long curly hair down to their shoulders and a mustache you can’t miss.  I think one of their songs is on Guitar Hero actually, which completely makes sense.  They were a rock and roll type of band which fit perfectly with the Toadies.  During one of their songs, Clark (guitarist from the Toadies) came out to play a song with them which was pretty awesome.

Then the time came.  The Toadies played the song from Jesus Christ Superstar before they came out on stage which was so perfect due to all of their Jesus related lyrics, yet I’m not so sure if they’re actually religious, or if Todd is just fascinated with writing lyrics about Jesus.  Hmmm… Anyway, they opened with a song from Hell Below/Stars Above and from that moment on, my smile did not leave my face. I haven’t screamed the lyrics to every single song at a show in such a long time, but it felt great.  Honestly, they could have played all of Rubberneck and Hell Below/Stars Above and I would be completely content.  There were so many songs I wanted them to play, yet every song they did play I loved anyway so it didn’t really matter.  They played 6 new songs from their upcoming CD Deliverance in August and I liked each one (like I really thought I wasn’t going to like a song from the Toadies?? Yeah right).  All in all they played for about an hour and a half (including their 3 song encore – YAY!).  And of course my favorite song is apparently every single other Toadies fans favorite as well – Tyler.

Todd Lewis broke the news to the crowd that after their CD comes out they are coming back for another round.

I’ll never forget that performance.

Ever.

(I’ll add some live pics from the show within a few days for those of you interested)

Less Than Jake & Goldfinger — Last Night!

Published by Interwebilicious under Shows

Took a break from playing NHL 2K7 (yes, that’s correct) and other I-Have-A-Life-Type Activities to see Less Than Jake last night at The Roseland Ballroom in NYC. I will have to admit that I didn’t know much about Goldfinger, but apparently should’ve. What a fun show! Some pics below…excuse the quality, iPhone cameras are only 2.5 yrs behind the curve.

Goldfinger inviting everyone on stage who purchased their first album… Getting people off the stage was surprisingly organized and borderline single file!

After they got everyone off stage they decided to light some cymbals on fire.

Less Than Jake made use of them confetti cannons

The new Whitechapel album, set to release in July, is definitely one of the heaviest albums of the year. Check out the video and wait for the synchronized headbanging at the end.

Hoagiefest = Amazingfest

Published by timtats under Festivals, Uncategorized

Hoagiefest @ Wawa

If you are from any part of New Jersey, you know what a Wawa is… and you know where the closest one is located.  If you live in New York, you don’t even know where New Jersey is located, let alone a Wawa.

Currently, Wawa is having Hoagiefest where you can purchase a Shorti for a measly $2.99!  Which Shorti’s can you purchase?  Well, here’s the lineup… Italian, Cheesesteak, Turkey, & Meatball.  Yummmmmm.

NOW, you must visit the Hoagiefest website (www.hoagiefest.com).  If I could sum it up in one word, it would be amazing.  It is a Flash based website with 3 theme songs (At The Hoagiefest, Turkey So Fine, & Come On Down) created by Parry Gripp, singer of the band Nerf Herder.  Best part… you are able to download the three “jingles.”  That’s not it though, there are also ringtones. wallpapers, and buddy icons for free.

I hope you all get as excited as I am right now.  The songs are hillarious, and get they funnier everytime you listen them.  Don’t forget to visit your local Wawa store to celebrate in Hoagiefest!  If you need help finding your closest store, please click here.

Could it be?

I have been away for a bit, so I may be late on this one….but apparently there’s a real deal photo of Michael (King of Pop) Jackson’s children swirling around there on the internets. Is it really them? Did he really participate in the fruitful act that brought these little tykes into this world? Gosh…I don’t know…I’m not anthropologist… Have a blast…comment away.

PS: Blanket, is that you little fella?

PPS: They actually kinda look like MJ’s kin— Post-Op

Top Selling Solo Artist

Published by reddor under Uncategorized

Up until recently, Elvis still was the top selling solo artist - he sold more than any artist dead or alive!

While that may or may not be common knowledge, I still find it absolutely amazing that recently a new top solo artist has emerged and surpassed Elvis… Garth Brooks!?!? Brooks has 128 million certified in units, and Elvis has 118.5 million c.i.u. Am I the only one who finds this amazing???

new obsessions & a review

My new obsession has got to be Colour Revolt. I found out about them from all of my friends, which is where I find out about a lot of new music. First I got their EP Esperanza which came out in 2006, but I just started listening to it a few months ago (I’m slow). So I fell in love with those 4 songs so I decided to upgrade to their full length Plunder, Beg and Curse (Fat Possum Records) and couldn’t be more obsessed. This five piece comes from Oxford, Mississippi and made it out to Maxwells in Hoboken in early May. Unfortunately I couldn’t make it out to this show due to me having to catch a flight to the Caribbean at 4 a.m. But just about every single friend of mine made it out, and the band was so grateful for these guys that they’re appearing again at Maxwells August 1, which makes my day because I get to partake in this extravaganza!

I promised I’d give as good as a review as good as humanly possible for the Sigur Ros show at the Grand Ballroom; so here it goes. My boyfriend was the one who got us tickets off of e-bay due to the very mean people of the world who buy tickets for a band that they don’t even like just to sell them and make a profit off of them – but that’s an entirely different story. We were in row U and on the seating chart our row wasn’t even visible. So right off the bat, he’s depressed and kept thinking we were going to have THE WORST seats ever. We climb about 10 flights of stairs just to get to the ballroom, which was a workout indeed, only to find out we have floor seats and to conclude that there really isn’t a bad seat in the entire place. Phew. I start observing the people around me which I do constantly and see that it’s mainly men. Interesting. The lights go dim and this very petite blonde hair, blue eyed young man takes the stage. His speaking voice is very light and very awkward. The moment he started to sing, I knew I was going to be a fan. His voice reminded me of Jonsi (probably because they’re both from Iceland and both have very soft, beautiful voices). He played every instrument up there from the organ to the guitar to the piano. I couldn’t have asked for a better opener for Sigur Ros. And if you are a fan of Sigur Ros but couldn’t make it out to the show, check out his music, you’ll probably enjoy it. His name is Helgi Jonsson.

After his beautiful performance, there was a short break and Sigur Ros filled the room. After every single song, the crowd applauded like I’ve never heard before, yet no one stood during the performance…except for the grand finale… but I’ll get to that later. Honestly, I don’t remember the set list, but I do remember holding back tears, fighting to be better than that crying girl at a Sigur Ros show, yet the tears came. Yeah, yeah, yeah – laugh if you want. At least I didn’t pay $100 dollars just to sleep at one of their shows (and yes, people DO do this… just put on their cd and go to bed!!) ANYWAYS, I was completely blown away during every single song, and was super duper surprised about the crowd, let me explain: normally at a very quiet part of a song, some a-hole will scream something obnoxious. Here, no one did. Complete silence. To be a band and to have that much control over your audience is beyond words for me. After songs some would yell “WE LOVE YOU” which I thought was very adorable because the people who screamed it were definitely men. The only songs I did not know were the new ones, except for of course, Gobbledigook. They waited until the very end of the show to play this, and when they did, my boyfriend and I rushed to the stage and we were about 5 feet away from the stage. Being that close to Sigur Ros made me feel like the most special person in the world, even though there were hundreds around me. And to share that entire experience with the person (my boyfriend!) who introduced me to the band and who made me fall in love with them was surreal. This review does the show no justice, I understand that, but I wanted to tell my experience first hand. To see for yourself, save up a few bucks and get your butt online and get some tickets. I guarantee you…you will not regret it.

These were the band guys - very talented, very lovely, very happy:)

Helgi Jonsson is all the way to the right.

They came back out twice to bow, no encore, but the bow-ing was very acceptable.

Adventures with The Dagger

“We should have blogged about this 5 hours ago” - Me, 5 minutes ago

I’m not even going to pretend that this is “breaking news” because I’m sure every blog on Earth has written about this already, but the new Girl Talk album. JUST. HAPPENED.

Oh, you want a review? Seriously? Seriously. I just spent the last 52 minutes and 27 seconds saying “Holy Shit THIS song” and letting my jaw drop to the floor. Dance party in your cube guaranteed or your money back, BUT don’t be a twerp and download this for free just because you can. Drop a dollar or something so homeboy can pay for the internetz you just sucked up asshole.

Name your price for “Feed The Animals” here. Your welcome.
