Upcoming shows!
I just want to get this out of the way first: listened to the new Lil Wayne this morning, and I must say I am truly not a fan. But I never actually was a fan of rap, so I can’t say that my opinion is able to be credible. Although from all of the hype about him through out the past years, I thought he’d actually have some talent, that he’d actually have a nice, possibly a soothing rap voice, but no. Some songs I thought he was choking on something, possibly going to die, who knows.

Anyway, thought I’d catch you guys up with some shows I’m going to be at this summer. Firstly, tonight I’m lucky enough to be seeing Sigur Ros at the Manhattan Center in NYC. I have heard though that the drummer hurt his hand somehow during their set at Bonnaroo and was unable to play the drums for the rest of the set and I also hear that tonight they’re going to keep heavy drumming out. But we shall see. I’ll give you an update very soon on this.
You can check out their new single “gobbledigook”, view the video of it and stream their new album as well, here.

June 28th I’m seeing The Toadies at the Trocadero in Philly. I haven’t seen them in about 6-7 years, and I am more than due for their live show. I and a few others drove all the way out to Washington to see them live, and I don’t quite remember it being that it was about 6 years ago, so now I’ll have the chance to live it up to the best of my abilities. Tickets are $15.00 (plus surcharges), GA and are still available on Ticketmaster.
And for you Toadies fans out there, we should expect a new CD from them late this summer. The date (which could change) is August 19th, 2008 and it is called No Deliverance…keep your eyes peeled.

My mid July show (July 28th) is Mewithoutyou with Maps & Atlases at Maxwells in Hoboken, NJ. Every time they come around, I make it a goal to not miss any show because I know if I do I’m going to regret it. And for this show to be at Maxwells just makes it so much better: great food, great beer and a small venue. Tickets are $13.00, (plus surcharges) GA and are still on sale according to ticketweb.

Another one of my favorites, As Tall As Lions, will also be appearing at Maxwells 20 days earlier on July 8th. Tickets are $10 advance (ticketweb again I’m assuming) or $12 day of show if you’re willing to be risky.

And last but not least, Sigur Ros is coming back to the states for two more NYC shows at the United Palace Theater September 17th and 18th. I have read on another blog that these two days are very busy for concerts and let me tell you why:
Sep 17th
1) Sigur Ros at United Palace
2) The Mars Volta at Hammerstein
3) The Swell Season at Central Park Summerstage
4) Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band at MSG
Sep 18th
1) Sigur Ros at United Palace
2) The Mars Volta at Hammerstein
3) Mogwai at Terminal 5
4) Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band at MSG
So be sure to buy your tickets wisely and get them before they sell out !!

“Some songs I thought he was choking on something, possibly going to die, who knows.” - Ha!! Couldn’t agree with you more!
how on earth do you even GET tickets to these sigur ros shows. short of spending $300, i can’t seem to get a foot in the door? seriously, any suggestions would be appreciated. i’m a huge sigur ros fan and have yet to be able to see a live show. pity me.
hi jackie and carrie
thanks for your responses and agreements!
carrie: me and my boyfriend didn’t have luck getting tickets to the grand ballroom show when they went on sale on ticketmaster, so we got tickets off of ebay. instead of $50 a ticket, they were $100. but i must say… it was totally worth it.
this past friday, pre-sale tickets went on sale for their two upcoming shows in september and again, no luck. the site was not cooperating at all with all of the fans refreshing their pages; some people got tickets, some (like me) did not. but their general sale is this friday at ten… but shhhhhh! keep that quiet! even though everyone in the world knows about it due to brooklyn vegan. anyways, if you can’t get tickets on ticketmaster, try ebay and a whole bunch of other sites that sell tickets for much more than they are worth, but you may luck out like i have in the past.
good luck!
