After two major blows to the entertainment world in the form of the deaths of Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac, another great entertainer has passed. LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, died yesterday afternoon from complications caused by a recent ATV accident at his farm in Virginia. He was 46 years old and was expected to recover after some intensive rehabilitation.
LeRoi was an integral part of the band and brought all the wind sounds you heard in songs such as “Crush,” “Bartender,” and many DMB fans’ personal favorite, “Say Goodbye.” As a huge fan of the band, I feel very blessed to have seen LeRoi in concert so many times, most recently in Saratoga Springs only a week before his accident in June. I don’t think he can ever be replaced but I know Dave and the rest of the band will eventually pick a new player who will honor LeRoi’s signature sound.
I wanted to put a video of “Say Goodbye,” but couldn’t find one that did LeRoi’s playing any justice.  Instead, I’ll give you this tribute someone made. The collage of photos is nice but what’s really special is LeRoi’s sax in this cover of Johnny Cash’s “Long Black Veil.” Enjoy it.

The Dear Hunter will be coming to town this Saturday at the School of Rock in South Hackensack, NJ with Lydia and You, Me and Everyone We Know. They’re a lot better than De Niro could ever be… except for maybe in Taxi Driver… And doesn’t the singer Casey look strikingly similar to Bon Jovi with his denim jacket?

Remember Paul Di’Anno? The singer for Iron Maiden’s first two albums? I personally f*cking LOVE Di’Anno Maiden! Well, here’s Paul rocking an accoustic version of Wrathchild (from the Killers album) in 2006, in some room that I can’t figure out, but I do see Storm Troopers in tha background so maybe it’s some type of Star Wars convention???
I realize this is a bit old, but I just watched it for the first time and wanted to share it with you!

Wow… my first blog post ever!…. i think i turn into a hipster a little more ever day i spend in the city.
Speaking of hipsters… The Gay Blades, who recently signed to Triple Crown Records have released a new digital 7″ you can download over at RCRD LBL.
They’ll be at the Mercury Lounge this Monday, Aug. 11th, at 8pm. Then heading out with Envy on the Coast and The Sleeping… I’m pretty sure they’ve got an extra seat in the van in anyone wants to quit life for a month or so… I did back in March… it was…. interesting.
